I may have mentioned this before, but I originally had no intention of painting Spanish troops, simply because we don't have enough space for all the nations involved in the War of the Austrian Succession. For Piacenza [1], I therefore used only French figures, omitting the bases with flags and instead scattering Spanish flags among them. To me, the result looked quite good, given that Spanish uniforms are very similar—or even nearly identical—to French ones, save for the red cockade on the hats.

However, the Miquelets from Minarions Miniatures caught my eye; their distinctive poses are truly captivating [2]. I also discovered spare figures from other sets, which I used to form small units—comprising just four bases each—for the Guardias Reales du Corps and the Lusitania and Monroy Dragoons [3]. Subsequently, Strelets released further sets that I wanted to acquire, as some contain interesting poses that I can repurpose for French infantry [4]. I am now using the surplus miniatures from these sets for my relatively small Spanish units, starting with the classic Castilla Regiment for the line infantry.
