Diesmal geht es weiter mit unserem Interview mit Bernhard Weigl. 

Today we continue with our interview with Bernhard Weigl.

 

Bernhard Weigl als Oberschreiber und ich selbst als Schreiber auf einer Veranstaltung in Burgtreswitz. - Bernhard Weigl as the chief secretary and myself as a secretary at one of the events in Burgtreswitz. 

Wie ich als Amtmann auf unseren Anno Domini-Veranstaltungen hast Du in Burgtreswitz ja auch eine Art Beamten - korrigiere mich bitte, wenn ich das falsch bezeichnet habe - dargestellt. Woher kommt Deine Rollenwahl? Ich selber kann meine Spielszenen aus der Figur dem Amtmannes heraus gewissermaßen moderieren. Wie sieht es bei Deinen Rollen aus? Steht da Dein Interesse an der Strafverfolgung und dem Räuberthema im Hintergrund?

B. Weigl: Das kleine Burgtreswitz war Sitz des sogenannten Pflegers, der gleichzeitig auch Landrichter war. Ich selbst schlüpfte bei den Veranstaltungen (Darstellung um 1760) in die Rolle des Oberschreibers. Der kam rangmäßig tatsächlich direkt hinter dem Pfleger. Da gibt es bezüglich der Gerichtsbarkeit in Bayern tatsächlich immer wieder interessante Details. Z.B. war es um 1750 noch Brauch, dass bei Todesurteilen symbolisch ein Stab gebrochen wurde. In Burgtreswitz gab es einen Streit zwischen Pfleger und Gerichtsschreiber, wer diesen Stab tatsächlich brechen durfte oder musste. Daraufhin befragte die Regierung die verschiedensten Ämter wie dort jeweils dieser Umstand gehandhabt wurde. Als sich herausstellte, das dies überall anders war und man den Brauch sowieso für äußerst rückständig hielt, schuf man ihn ab. Wenn man das aus der Rolle des Gerichtsschreibers heraus vortragen kann, dann lässt sich das natürlich auch sehr lebendig und spannend vermitteln.

Like me as a bailiff at our Anno Domini events, you also portrayed a kind of civil servant in Burgtreswitz - please correct me if I used the wrong word. Where does your choice of role come from? I myself can, to a certain extent, moderate my game scenes from the character of the bailiff. What about your roles? Is there your interest in criminal prosecution and the robber issue in the background?

B. Weigl: The small Burgtreswitz was the seat of the so-called caregiver, who was also a judge at the same time. I myself slipped into the role of chief clerk at the events (depicted around 1760). In terms of rank, he actually came directly behind the nurse. There are actually always interesting details about the jurisdiction in Bavaria. For example, around 1750 it was still customary for a staff to be symbolically broken when there was a death sentence. In Burgtreswitz there was a dispute between the nurse and the court clerk as to who was actually allowed or had to break this staff. The government then asked the various offices how this situation was handled there. When it turned out that this was different everywhere and the custom was considered extremely backward anyway, it was abolished. If you can present that from the role of court clerk, then of course it can also be conveyed in a very lively and exciting way.

Außer Deiner Teilnahme in Wackershofen machst Du ja noch viel mehr in der Richtung Wissensvermittlung, sag ich jetzt mal. Kannst Du unseren Lesern erzählen wo Du sonst noch unterwegs bist? Vielleicht magst Du ja Werbung für Deine künftigen Veranstaltungen machen. 

B. Weigl: Glücklicherweise muss man sich nicht so festlegen, wenn man das einfach aus Spaß als Hobby ausübt. Momentan nimmt mich auch mein Beruf zeitlich sehr in Anspruch, so dass ich kaum dazu komme, selbst Veranstaltungen für das 18. Jahrhundert zu organisieren. Ein Vortrag hier oder dort, das geht dann schon noch. Unter anderem schreibe ich aber auch immer wieder historische Aufsätze oder auch Kurzgeschichten. Geschichte ist sehr vielfältig. Ich habe auch verschiedene Rekonstruktionen erstellt. Sowohl real anzufassende, wie meine Sänfte des 18. Jahrhunderts oder auch meine Draisine (Modell 1817) [1], als auch welche, die man online ansehen kann (z.B. auf Youtube). Sie Sänfte stand vor einigen Jahren auch schon als Leihgabe für eine Ausstellung im Schlosshof in Dresden.

Apart from your participation in Wackershofen, you do a lot more in the direction of knowledge transfer, I'll tell you now. Can you tell our readers where else you are traveling? Perhaps you would like to advertise your future events.

B. Weigl: Luckily you don't have to commit yourself that way if you just do it as a hobby for fun. At the moment my job is also taking up a lot of my time, so I hardly get to organize events for the 18th century myself. A lecture here or there, that's fine. Among other things, I also write historical essays and short stories from time to time. History is very diverse. I also made various reconstructions. Both real ones that can be touched, such as my 18th century sedan chair or my handcar (model 1817) [1], as well as some that can be viewed online (e.g. on Youtube). A few years ago, the sedan chair was on loan for an exhibition in the castle courtyard in Dresden.

Here are some examples of my 3D reconstruction proposals. Among other things for various fortresses and castles [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8].

Du wirkst ja auch an Ausstellungen neben Deiner Teilnahme an Living History Veranstaltungen mit. Bleibt Dir bei all Deinem Aufwand, den Du in all Deine Projekte investierst noch ein Thema, was Dich mal total interessieren würde, Dich damit zu beschäftigen? 

 

B. Weigl: Es wäre ja absolut schlimm, wenn es kein Thema mehr gäbe, das offen wäre. Ich habe etliche Aufsätze halbgeschrieben herumliegen und auch diverse Buchideen. Wenn man das hobbymäßig betreibt, dann darf man das zum Glück auch Mal unfertig liegen lassen, solange man keine Lust darauf hat. Über ungelegte Eier spricht man aber besser nicht. Zudem liegt bei mir schon seit einiger Zeit der Nachbau einer camera obscura aus dem 18. Jahrhundert unfertig herum. Ein Exemplar habe ich schon gebaut. Dieses hier läge mir aber besonders am Herzen. Schauen wir einmal, ob 2023 ein Basteljahr wird. 

 

You also take part in exhibitions alongside your participation in Living History events. With all the effort you invest in all your projects, is there still a topic that you would be totally interested in dealing with? 

 

B. Weigl: It would be absolutely terrible if there were no longer an open topic. I have a number of essays half-written lying around and also various book ideas. If you do it as a hobby, you can fortunately leave it unfinished as long as you don't feel like it. But it's better not to talk about unlaid eggs. In addition, I have had an unfinished replica of a camera obscura from the 18th century lying around for some time. I have already built a copy. But this one is particularly close to my heart. Let's see if 2023 will be a craft year.

Und nun kommt zum Abschluss eine beinahe obligatorische Frage. Kannst Du Dich an deine Veranstaltung erinnern bei der Du Dich besonders in die dargestellte Zeit zurückversetzt gefühlt hast oder die Dir aus anderen Gründen besonders gut gefallen hat? 

 

B. Weigl: Da steht für mich die tolle Veranstaltungsreihe von Dir in Wackershofen an erster Stelle. Das muss ich hier schon einmal sagen. Ich darf da ja schon seit etlichen Jahren mit dabei sein. Neben vielen sehr netten und vor allem qualitätsmäßig auch tollen Darstellern für das 18. Jahrhundert ist natürlich auch das Ambiente im dortigen Freilandmuseum unschlagbar. Abgesehen davon bin ich ein leidenschaftlicher Erklärer. Die dortigen Besucher sind meiner Erfahrung nach immer besonders interessiert. 

 

And now, to conclude, comes an almost obligatory question. Can you remember your event where you felt particularly transported back to the time shown or which you particularly liked for other reasons?  

 

B. Weigl: The top priority for me is your great series of events in Wackershofen. I have to say that here. I've been able to be there for a number of years. In addition to many very nice and, above all, great actors for the 18th century in terms of quality, the ambience in the open-air museum there is of course unbeatable. That being said, I'm a passionate explainer. In my experience, the visitors there are always particularly interested.
